He received his mining certification in 1975 and has subsequently owned, controlled and operated extractive industries. In 2000, as president of a private domestic oil company, he started investigating alternative energy technologies. In 2011, he published a “white paper” on “syngas technology” wherein he declared that “It is simply wrong-headed to burn coal in a steam generator power plant when over 44,000 valuable chemicals and products can be extracted from coal, and still generate electricity with the residual heat.” Currently, he is doing site review to determine the best locations for expansion of our Coal to Liquids technology in conjunction with the need for job creation and stabilizing rural economies by instituting sustainable industries that utilize Coal as a feedstock. Mr. Muncy is a West Virginia native and is concentrating much effort into the Appalachian region from Pittsburgh to Western Kentucky. Utilizing modern CTL technology which can economically extract liquids from coal, changes the landscape on how we view and evaluate Coal.
Feedstock is readily available from the economically depressed areas of Southern West Virginia. River, rail and truck access to Coal feedstock is readily available in the North Central Region of WV and Western Kentucky, making river access a key component in his process. Mr. Muncy is considered to be an authority on alternative uses for coal through the use of “Plasma Gasification” and “Coal to Liquids” processes.
